Spain have extended Luis de la Fuente’s contract until 2032 after the 65-year-old led them to their second World Cup title this summer.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) board approved the new agreement on Monday, extending De la Fuente’s previous deal by four years. His earlier contract was due to expire in 2028 after the European Championship in the UK and Ireland.
The new terms will keep De la Fuente in charge for the 2030 World Cup, which Spain will co-host with Portugal and Morocco, and the 2032 European Championship in Italy and Türkiye.
De la Fuente took over in December 2022 after Spain were eliminated by Morocco in the last 16 of the World Cup under Luis Enrique. He has since overseen a run of major tournament success.
Spain won the Nations League in 2023 before claiming the European Championship in 2024. They then defeated Argentina in the World Cup final in New Jersey in July to secure the country’s second world title.

De la Fuente had already worked extensively within the RFEF before becoming senior coach. He led Spain to European titles at under-19 and under-21 level and also guided the team to a silver medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.
His new contract gives him responsibility for Spain’s next two major tournaments after the 2030 World Cup, when the country will be among the hosts, and Euro 2032.
Spain will return to international football this week for the first time since their World Cup victory. De la Fuente’s side face England at Wembley this weekend in the first of four Nations League matches during the international break.
They will then play Croatia and Czechia at home before travelling to face Croatia again.
