Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa both arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday still searching for their first Premier League win of the season.

It might be too early in the campaign to call this one a six-pointer, but Saturday’s early kickoff carries plenty of significance for two clubs desperate for their season to click into gear.
Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham side sit 17th in the table with just two points from four matches, both draws, and are yet to find the net in the Premier League this term despite considerable summer investment. Aston Villa are a place and a point further back in 19th, with Unai Emery’s side having taken just a single point from their opening four fixtures after being outplayed in their last league outing.
Neither side found any real relief in midweek cup action, either, even if the results told different stories. Tottenham were eliminated from the Carabao Cup, beaten 3-1 by Liverpool at home, while Villa progressed with a 3-1 win over Coventry City to at least offer Emery something to build on heading into the weekend.
History between these two sides has generally favoured Tottenham, who have won 80 of their 180 previous meetings with Villa, including 48 of 93 at their own stadium.
Recent form, though, tells a very different story: Villa have won four of the last five head-to-head meetings in all competitions, outscoring Spurs nine goals to six across that spell, with Tottenham’s only victory in that run coming in a 2-1 win at Villa Park back in October 2025. The most recent meeting between the sides ended in a 2-1 Villa win at Villa Park in May, extending their recent dominance of the fixture.
With both teams struggling for confidence and goals in short supply, Tottenham have failed to score in the league altogether this season; this has the makings of a tight, scrappy affair in north London.

Tottenham will be boosted by the return of Pedro Porro, who is back available after missing the last two matches in all competitions with a minor muscular issue.
Sandro Tonali, meanwhile, sat out the midweek Carabao Cup defeat with a knock but is expected to be fit to feature from the start. De Zerbi is expected to restore several first-choice players who were rested against Liverpool, including Antonin Kinsky in goal, Micky van de Ven and Andy Robertson in defence, and Mateus Fernandes and Savio further forward, while Dominic Solanke should return to lead the line.
Aston Villa have their own fitness concerns to monitor. Matty Cash and João Gomes are both at risk of missing out after neither featured in the midweek win over Coventry City, leaving Emery with selection decisions to make in both full-back areas and central midfield.
