Ferland Mendy has been left out of Real Madrid’s Champions League squad by Jose Mourinho.
Mendy, who has been recovering from an injury sustained towards the end of last season, is the most notable omission from Madrid’s European squad. Eder Militao and Rodrygo, despite also being injured, have both been registered for the competition.
Mourinho’s decision gives Madrid flexibility to include players who are currently unavailable while leaving Mendy outside the squad. Madrid begin their Champions League campaign next week at the Santiago Bernabeu against Inter Milan.
The club’s List A contains the main senior players, while the List B selection includes 11 players from the youth ranks. Sergio Martinez, a recent arrival, has been included and will wear the No 38 shirt.

Goalkeepers Sergio Mestre and Javi Navarro are also on the List B selection, along with defenders including Fortea and Joan Martínez.
Mendy’s omission means he will not be available for the league phase unless Madrid make changes to their squad under the competition’s registration rules. The Frenchman will instead continue his rehabilitation away from the European squad.
Madrid have started brightly this season under Mourinho, winning their first three games against Espanyol, Real Sociedad and Malaga.
They face Real Betis next at La Cartuja before their Champions League opener against Inter next week.
