Bremer Header Gives Juventus Winning Start Against Frosinone

Gleison Bremer scored the only goal as Juventus beat Frosinone 1-0 to begin their Serie A campaign

Juventus began their Serie A campaign with a 1-0 victory over newly promoted Frosinone, thanks to a first-half header from Gleison Bremer.

It was not the most convincing performance from the Bianconeri, but Spalletti’s side did enough to secure all three points and continue their impressive record against newly promoted opposition. Juventus have now avoided defeat in 20 of their last 21 Serie A matches against teams coming up from the second tier.

Bremer had already warned Frosinone of the danger he posed before eventually finding the breakthrough. The Brazilian defender first headed narrowly wide before creating another opening when his flick-on picked out an unmarked Randal Kolo Muani at the far post. The French striker, however, could only volley wildly over.

Juventus did not have to wait much longer for their reward. Bremer was involved again, this time making sure the move ended in the back of the net. Francisco Conceicao delivered a teasing ball into the box, and Bremer got ahead of goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisani to power a header home.

Frosinone struggled to create much during the opening period but finally tested Juventus goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario shortly before half-time. The debutant reacted well to Gabriele Bracaglia’s long-range effort, while Giorgi Kvernadze smashed the rebound into the side netting.

Juventus continued to look the more dangerous side after the interval and came close to doubling their lead through Conceicao. The Portuguese winger cut inside before sending an effort narrowly over the crossbar, but his frustrating afternoon in front of goal continued as he later fired another left-footed attempt wide.

The missed chances left Juventus with a dangerous one-goal advantage heading into the final stages, and Frosinone sensed an opportunity to steal a point. Their biggest chance came deep into stoppage time when Gabriele Calvani rose highest and sent a header crashing against the crossbar.

That was as close as Frosinone came to an equaliser, allowing Juventus to see out a narrow victory and start the new season with three points.

The result also extended Juventus’ remarkable opening-day record, giving them their 14th win in their last 16 Serie A season openers. Frosinone, meanwhile, suffered their fourth consecutive defeat on matchday one in the Italian top flight.
