Olise Inspires Bayern Munich in Super Cup Win Over Dortmund

Olise got a goal and assist as Bayern Munich beat 10-man Borussia Dortmund 2-1 to win the German Super Cup.

Bayern Munich began the new season with silverware after beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at Signal Iduna Park to win the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup.

The victory gave Bayern a record-extending 12th Super Cup triumph and provided Vincent Kompany’s side with the perfect start to their bid for another Bundesliga title.

For Dortmund, however, another disappointing night in the competition leaves them still waiting to add to their six Super Cup victories.

The atmosphere inside Signal Iduna Park was electric as the two German giants met for the 140th competitive edition of Der Klassiker. Dortmund, who had lost four of the previous five Super Cup editions, started brightly, with Konstantinos Karetsas nearly creating the opening goal with a dangerous delivery towards Serhou Guirassy.

But Bayern gradually took control, and their pressure eventually produced the breakthrough.

Michael Olise laid the ball into the path of Nathaniel Brown, who marked his competitive debut for the club in spectacular fashion by firing a sharp effort beyond Gregor Kobel.

Bayern grew stronger as the first half progressed, with Kobel forced into a fine save to keep out Luis Diaz’s curling effort. Dortmund briefly thought they had found an equaliser through Ramy Bensebaini, but his clever finish was ruled out for offside.

Instead, Bayern struck again before the break. A loose pass from Jobe Bellingham fell perfectly for Olise, who charged into the Dortmund box before calmly finishing to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Dortmund refused to disappear. Manuel Neuer was forced into action early in the second half to deny a powerful Karetsas effort, while Niko Kovac responded by making a triple substitution with his team desperately searching for a way back into the game.

The changes eventually paid off. With 15 minutes remaining, substitute Fabio Silva converted Daniel Svensson’s pull-back to halve the deficit and suddenly give Dortmund hope of completing the comeback.

The final stages became increasingly frantic. Neuer nearly gifted Bellingham an equaliser after a moment of hesitation, but the Bayern goalkeeper recovered just in time.

Dortmund’s hopes were then dealt another blow when Bensebaini was shown a straight red card for an overzealous challenge.

There was still one final opportunity for Dortmund, but Maximilian Beier could not take advantage. Bayern held on to secure the trophy and claim their 12th Super Cup.
