Jeremy Jacquet made his debut for Liverpool against Como on the last day of the club’s pre-season activities.
The centre-back scored in the 2-0 win over the Italian side, who are making a Champions League appearance this season under the auspices of Cesc Fabregas.
Jacquet joined Liverpool from Rennes this summer but missed earlier friendlies with a minor knee problem. The 21-year-old started alongside Virgil van Dijk and played the first half before being replaced by Ronald Araujo, who also made his debut following his season-long loan move from Barcelona.
There is much to expect from Jacquet this season, given Liverpool’s defensive woes last term and the thinness of the squad at the back even now. Positively for fans, he was composed throughout and capped his fine display with his side’s second goal shortly before half-time.

Cody Gakpo had put Liverpool ahead in the 23rd minute after Jeremie Frimpong drove forward and created the opening. Alexander Isak went close to adding another when his curling effort struck the post, while Dominik Szoboszlai sent a powerful shot narrowly wide.
Como created some threats in Liverpool’s defensive third. Jesus Rodriguez tested Alisson Becker at his near post before half-time, and Tasos Douvikas was denied by Van Dijk after the interval when the Liverpool captain produced a well-timed challenge inside the penalty area. Jacquet himself impressed with several interceptions.
The youngster played only 45 minutes, but it was some useful minutes in the tank ahead of the new season, and his performance gave Liverpool an early indication of what their new signing can offer. It was promising.
