Barcelona winger Roony Bardghji is facing a lengthy spell out after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The 20-year-old is expected to have surgery in the coming days and could miss most of the season. The injury is another major setback for a player who has already spent a long period on the sidelines with a knee problem.
But it also rips the club’s plans to shreds given they had been looking to send him out on loan this summer. Fulltime Herald’s understanding is that the reason for this was to secure regular football for him, rather than for financial reasons or to make it easier to bring in a new player this window.

Bardghji made 28 appearances for Barcelona’s first team last season, scoring twice and providing four assists. However, his prospects of playing time have been reduced by the arrivals of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi.
Unfortunately, the injury means the Sweden international will have to stay at the club and recover. It takes a fairly long time, months, for players to recover from ACL injuries, and Bardghji will be managed even more carefully with his previous knee problem in mind.
The 20-year-old joined Barcelona from Copenhagen and had previously suffered a serious knee injury in May 2024. It kept him out of first-team football for 334 days.
Bardghji was born in Kuwait and has won three caps for Sweden. He was not selected for Sweden’s squad for this summer’s World Cup.
