Ferran Torres has told Barcelona he wants to join Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
According to the latest reports, the Spain international has agreed personal terms with the French club and talks between the two clubs will begin once PSG make an offer.
Torres has one year left on his Barcelona contract but is it a good idea for Barcelona to let him go? The Spanish champions are short in attack and have so far failed to replace Robert Lewandowski this summer. A move for Julian Alvarez is looking increasingly unlikely.
Barcelona have brought in Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, but anyone thinking either of the two can play well as a centre-forward will be disabused of that notion once the season starts.
Torres, for all his faults, was Lewandowski’s colleague in the position last season and even enjoyed a purple patch.
However, the understanding is that Barcelona would be willing to let the 26-year-old leave if a suitable fee can be agreed with PSG.
The forward is currently on holiday after helping Spain win the World Cup last month. Torres scored the extra-time winner in the 1-0 final victory against Argentina, after coming off the bench.
Torres joined Barcelona from Manchester City for about €55m in 2021. He has scored 65 goals in 207 appearances for the club, including 21 in 49 games last season.
