Roma have reportedly reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid to sign Argentina defender Nahuel Molina in a deal worth up to €17 million.

Roma are closing in on another major addition to their squad after reportedly reaching an agreement with Atletico Madrid for Argentina international Nahuel Molina.

According to reports, the Giallorossi have agreed to pay an initial €13 million, with a further €4 million in performance-related bonuses, to secure the services of the experienced right-back. The two clubs are now working through the final details before the transfer is officially completed.

The signing would hand Roma boss Gian Piero Gasperini another experienced option as he continues reshaping the squad ahead of the new Serie A season. Molina arrives with plenty of top-level experience, having established himself as one of Argentina’s most reliable full-backs over the last four years.

The 28-year-old joined Atletico Madrid from Udinese in 2022 and went on to make 46 appearances in all competitions during the 2025/26 season. He featured regularly in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League, demonstrating the consistency and tactical versatility that made him a key player under Diego Simeone.

Internationally, Molina boasts one of the strongest résumés among full-backs in Europe. He was part of Argentina’s squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and also featured prominently as Lionel Scaloni’s side reached the 2026 World Cup final. With 65 senior international caps, he brings valuable leadership and winning experience to Roma’s dressing room.

For Roma, the move represents more than simply adding another defender. Gasperini’s tactical system relies heavily on energetic wing-backs capable of contributing at both ends of the pitch, and Molina’s ability to defend aggressively while supporting attacks makes him an ideal fit for the Italian coach’s philosophy.

If the final paperwork is completed as expected, Molina will become one of Roma’s standout signings of the summer and strengthen a squad hoping to challenge for Champions League qualification while competing deep into European competition during the 2026/27 campaign.
