How ready are Real Madrid to meet Vinicius Junior’s sizeable contract demands?
The club have renewed contract talks with the player by submitting an improved offer after negotiations stalled for almost a year.
Indeed, it has been 18 months since the contract conversation started, and Madrid’s last bid to Vinicius was a figure in the region of €20m a year. They were unwilling to go past that.
Given the developments relating to his links to Arsenal, and the fact that he would become a free agent next year and is even able to sign pre-contract agreements with other club by January, things are becoming more urgent for Madrid.
Their latest proposal is worth about €22m a year, according to sources familiar with the discussions between the two parties. The length of the proposed extension is not known for now.
However, there is still a sizeable difference between what Madrid are offering and what Vinicius wants. The player and his representatives are seeking a deal worth about €30m a year, sources report, which means there is still quite the gap between the twos sides.

Vinicius is 26 years old and currently earns around €17.5m annually. He and the people close to him believe the next contract he signs will be the most important of his career. As a result, they want it to be significant.
They also feel that in their offer Madrid should properly recognise the impact he has made for the club on the pitch for years, including when he scored crucial goals to secure the Champions League.

It is worth mentioning that Madrid specifically wanted to prevent this sort of scenario from happening.
Vinicius joined Madrid in 2018 as an 18-year-old, signing a six-year deal until 2024. He renewed his contract in 2022, extending it from 2024 to 2027. His salary from the next extension was initially around €12m a year, but it increased over time to about €18m a year in 2026.
Madrid started discussions over an extension as far back as 18 months ago, in the beginning of 2025, because they hoped to agree a deal and prevent any situation where Vinicius would be left with just one year in his contract.
Would Vinicius be willing to leave Madrid?
It would seem it is currently much more financially rewarding for Vinicius to stay at Madrid for one more season at least. The Brazilian is due a loyalty bonus next year, and when his contract runs out he can sign for another club as a free agent, which would give him a significant advantage in negotiating his wages and signing bonus.
