Bayern Munich will begin the defence of their Bundesliga title against VfB Stuttgart on August 28.

Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart will officially kick off the 2026/27 Bundesliga season when they meet at the Allianz Arena on Friday, August 28, the German Football League (DFL) has confirmed.

The announcement comes ahead of the release of the full Bundesliga fixture list, with the DFL revealing several headline matches and important dates before unveiling the complete schedule later this week.

The opening fixture will be a rematch of the 2025/26 DFB-Pokal final, where Bayern comfortably defeated Stuttgart 3-0 in Berlin. Harry Kane was the star of the show on that occasion, scoring a hat-trick to secure the trophy for the Bavarians.

Elsewhere, newly promoted SV Elversberg will begin their first-ever Bundesliga campaign with a home fixture against Bayer Leverkusen, the league champions from the 2022/23 season, marking a historic occasion for the club.

The German Football League has also confirmed the dates for the highly anticipated Revierderby between newly promoted Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund. Schalke will host the first meeting on Matchday 12 between December 4 and 6.

The return clash at Signal Iduna Park is scheduled for Matchday 29, with Dortmund welcoming their fierce local rivals between April 9 and 11, 2027, in one of German football’s biggest fixtures.

The remaining matches for the 2026/27 Bundesliga season will be officially announced later on Thursday, completing the schedule for another highly anticipated campaign in Germany’s top flight.
