Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly placed a €50m valuation on Cristian Romero as Inter Milan step up their pursuit of the Argentina defender.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero is reportedly pushing for a move away from north London this summer, with Inter Milan emerging as the strongest contenders to secure his signature ahead of the new season.
According to reports from Italy, Inter have already opened discussions with Romero’s representatives as they explore the possibility of bringing the Argentina international back to Serie A after four years in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old is believed to have made the decision to leave Tottenham even before suffering an injury during Argentina’s defeat to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. Although he limped off in that match, his future had already become increasingly uncertain.
Romero enjoyed a successful spell in Italian football before joining Spurs. After arriving at Genoa in 2018, he went on to represent Juventus and Atalanta, where his performances established him as one of Europe’s top central defenders before Tottenham completed a €53.8 million move for him in 2021.
Despite his desire to leave, Tottenham remain in a strong negotiating position. Romero is still under contract until June 2029, allowing the club to dictate the terms of any potential transfer during the current window.
Reports suggest Spurs have informed interested clubs that they value Romero at around €50 million. While both the player and the club appear open to parting ways, Tottenham are unwilling to lower their asking price, creating a significant obstacle for Inter Milan.
The defender’s salary expectations are also understood to be another complication. Inter are keen to strengthen their defence but must balance their transfer budget with Romero’s wage demands, making negotiations far from straightforward.
Although Inter remain optimistic about convincing Romero to return to Italy, Tottenham’s €50 million valuation and the financial package required to complete the move mean a deal is still some distance away. The coming weeks are expected to determine whether the Nerazzurri can find a compromise or whether Spurs will stand firm on their demands.
