The newly crowned world champions replaced Argentina at the top after defeating the defending champions 1-0 in the final, with Ferran Torres scoring the decisive goal in extra time.
The World Cup victory handed Spain a significant boost in ranking points, allowing them to leapfrog Argentina by 25 points. FIFA’s ranking formula rewarded Spain with an additional 30 points for winning the tournament, securing first place in the updated standings.
Behind the top two, France and England retained third and fourth place respectively after both enjoyed strong World Cup campaigns. Brazil remained fifth, while Morocco climbed into sixth, marking the highest FIFA ranking in the nation’s history after another impressive showing on the global stage.
Portugal slipped two places to seventh following their disappointing tournament, while Belgium moved up to eighth after reaching the quarter-finals. The Netherlands dropped one position to ninth, and Mexico returned to the top ten for the first time since March 2022 after climbing four places.
Norway emerged as the biggest risers in the latest rankings, jumping an impressive 12 places to 19th. Their remarkable rise follows a memorable World Cup campaign that ended in the quarter-finals, representing their best FIFA ranking since August 2011.
Germany continued their decline after an early exit at the World Cup, falling to 11th following their Round of 32 defeat to Paraguay. Croatia also slipped two places, while Switzerland climbed five spots after reaching the quarter-finals in North America.
Italy remain the highest-ranked nation that failed to qualify for the World Cup, sitting 15th, just ahead of tournament hosts the United States. Elsewhere, Egypt reached a new milestone by climbing five places to 24th after recording their best-ever World Cup performance.
Several other nations experienced significant movement in the rankings. Turkey dropped five places to 27th, South Korea fell seven positions to 32nd, while Paraguay rose seven places to 34th. Tunisia suffered the steepest decline, falling 12 places to 57th, while Ghana, South Africa and DR Congo were among the countries celebrating notable improvements following the conclusion of the tournament.
