Goalkeeper understands opportunities to play regularly will be limited at Old Trafford
Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek has said he is open to leaving the club this summer in search of regular first-team football.
The 22-year-old is open to either a permanent move or another loan after featuring for 45 minutes in United’s pre-season game against Wrexham on Saturday.
United started Tom Heaton in the first half but their main goalkeepers next season will likely be Senne Lammens as No 1, with new signing Karl Darlow, who joined from Leeds United on a free transfer, as backup.
As for their other goalkeepers, Andre Onana has joined Trabzonspor on another season-long loan, while Altay Bayindir is expected to move before the end of the window.
Vitek said his next move will depend on both United’s plans and the opportunities available elsewhere this summer.
“I feel great and ready to go again somewhere to be, hopefully, number one, so we will see,” Vitek said. “We will see what is going to happen.”
The Czech goalkeeper spent last season at Bristol City, where he established himself as the first-choice keeper with 41 Championship appearances. His performances attracted praise and he himself expressed his desire to compete at Old Trafford. But he knows that is difficult and would rather be playing regularly than remain a reserve at Old Trafford.
“I am ready for both, to be fair,” Vitek said. “Depends what the club wants and also depends on the options. We will see.
“At the moment, I am still here, but we will see. I hope there will be some interest. I think you will know when things are more concrete.”
