AC Milan are reportedly considering a move for free-agent Raphaël Guerreiro as the experienced former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund defender weighs up his next club.

AC Milan have reportedly emerged as one of the leading contenders to sign Raphaël Guerreiro on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract after a successful spell in the Bundesliga. The experienced Portugal international is now assessing his options ahead of the new season.

According to Italian reports, the Rossoneri are considering the 32-year-old as a potential replacement for Pervis Estupiñán. Milan are keen to strengthen their defensive options and view Guerreiro’s versatility as a valuable asset.

Guerreiro brings a wealth of experience after spending the last decade in Germany with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. During that period, he established himself as one of Europe’s most technically gifted full-backs while also proving capable of operating in midfield when required.

Atletico Madrid had previously been linked with a move for the Portuguese defender, but the Spanish club has since completed the signing of Alejandro Grimaldo from Bayer Leverkusen. Leverkusen themselves have also been credited with an interest in Guerreiro in recent weeks.

Earlier in the summer, speculation suggested the injury-plagued defender was considering retirement after a series of fitness setbacks. However, those reports now appear to have faded, with Guerreiro instead exploring opportunities to continue his career at the highest level.

The defender enjoyed contrasting fortunes during his Bundesliga career. He suffered heartbreak with Borussia Dortmund after narrowly missing out on the league title in his final match for the club, but later celebrated consecutive Bundesliga triumphs after joining Bayern Munich.

On the international stage, Guerreiro remains one of Portugal’s most decorated modern players. He was a key member of the squad that lifted the UEFA European Championship trophy in 2016, helping his country secure its first major international title.

With his experience, tactical flexibility and availability as a free agent, Guerreiro represents an attractive option for clubs seeking proven quality without paying a transfer fee. AC Milan now appear well placed to take advantage if they decide to formalise their interest.
