Tottenham have set a €50 million asking price for Cristian Romero, with Inter Milan unlikely to pursue the defender due to the high transfer fee.
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly placed a €50 million valuation on Cristian Romero, a price that has significantly reduced Inter Milan’s chances of signing the Argentina international this summer.
According to reports from Italy, Romero’s name surfaced during discussions between Tottenham and Inter over a potential deal involving right-back Djed Spence. However, the proposal reportedly came from Spurs rather than Inter, who had not specifically enquired about the centre-back.
The Premier League club’s €50 million asking price has emerged as the biggest obstacle. Tottenham are reluctant to sell for anything less, especially after investing heavily to secure Romero from Atalanta in a deal that eventually cost around €53.8 million following his initial loan spell.

Inter are not expected to meet those demands. The Serie A giants had already been reluctant to spend a similar amount on young defender Marco Palestra and are unlikely to commit the same fee to a 28-year-old centre-back, particularly when factoring in Romero’s salary expectations.
Romero is no stranger to Italian football, having previously represented Genoa, Juventus and Atalanta before making the switch to England. His experience in Serie A would make him an attractive option for Inter if financial conditions were more favourable.
Despite signing a new contract with Tottenham as recently as August 2025, Romero’s relationship with the club has reportedly deteriorated over the past several months. Both parties are believed to accept that a separation would be the best outcome.
However, with Romero tied to Tottenham until 2029, any transfer will require an agreement that satisfies all sides. Unless Spurs lower their valuation, Inter appear set to withdraw from the race, leaving other interested clubs, including Barcelona, in a stronger position to pursue the defender.
