Atalanta are preparing to offer Brazilian midfielder Ederson a new contract after his proposed transfer to Manchester United fell through following medical concerns.

Atalanta are preparing to open contract talks with Ederson after the Brazilian midfielder’s proposed move to Manchester United collapsed earlier this summer. The Serie A club are now focused on convincing one of their key players to extend his stay in Bergamo.

Manchester United had reportedly reached an agreement with Atalanta over a deal worth around €45 million for the 27-year-old. The transfer was expected to be completed once Ederson finished his involvement with Brazil at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, the move broke down after concerns emerged during the medical process. While Ederson initially underwent medical examinations in the United States during the World Cup, Manchester United requested additional assessments after bringing him to England.

Those further tests ultimately led the Premier League side to pull out of the transfer, ending Ederson’s hopes of making the switch to Old Trafford this summer despite an agreement already being in place between the two clubs.

With the transfer now off, Atalanta are wasting little time in planning for the future. According to reports, the Serie A outfit intend to offer Ederson a new contract in an effort to secure his long-term future.

The Brazilian’s current deal expires in the summer of 2027, meaning he has entered the final year of his contract. Atalanta believe an extension would not only reward the midfielder but also strengthen their negotiating position should another club come calling in the coming months.

Club officials remain adamant that Ederson has no significant medical or fitness issues and are expected to hold discussions with the player’s representatives in the coming weeks. Atalanta are also fully prepared to reintegrate him into the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Ederson is currently enjoying a holiday following Brazil’s World Cup campaign. Once he returns to Italy, talks over a new deal are expected to begin, with Atalanta hoping to put the failed Manchester United transfer behind them and keep one of their most influential midfielders at the club.
