Enzo Maresca will serve a touchline ban during Chelsea’s next Premier League clash after receiving a booking amid the emotional celebrations for their dramatic 2-1 victory over Fulham on Sunday.

The suspension means the Blues boss will be absent from the dugout when they host Everton at Stamford Bridge next weekend.

The incident occurred in the final moments at Craven Cottage when substitute Pedro Neto scored a stunning 93rd-minute winner, capping off a thrilling late comeback for Chelsea.

Earlier, youngster Tyrique George had equalised with his first Premier League goal, cancelling out Alex Iwobi’s first-half opener for Fulham.

Emotions ran high as Maresca, his coaching staff, and several players flooded the pitch in celebration, prompting referee Anthony Taylor to issue the Italian coach a yellow card. That booking, his third of the season, triggered an automatic one-match suspension under Premier League rules.

Despite the euphoric scenes at full-time, Maresca chose not to take part in the post-match celebrations.

Speaking afterwards, he explained his quick exit down the tunnel, saying: “I was very happy, of course, but I felt it was a moment for the players to enjoy with the fans. That’s why I left the pitch immediately. When we scored the second goal, I celebrated, and that’s when I got the yellow card. But I think it was important for the team and supporters to have that moment together.”

The victory was a huge relief for Maresca, who faced criticism from sections of the Chelsea support at half-time.

His side had been trailing for most of the game before turning things around in the final minutes. While he’ll miss the Everton match, the energy and fight shown in the late win could give Chelsea a timely boost in the closing stages of the season.
