The Serie A leaders dropped points against Bologna but the head coach is keeping his eyes on the treble ahead

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is remaining calm and focused on his side’s upcoming games, despite the disappointing loss to Bologna on Sunday.

The Nerazzurri lost their three-point lead at the top of the Italian league after Bologna scored a stunning and heartbreaking late goal to claim all three points. Their rivals Napoli had won 1-0 against Monza on Saturday. The two sides are now level on points at the top of the table with five games to go, although Inter have a substantial lead in goal difference.

Inzaghi insists that while the loss was disappointing, it is important to remain focused on winning their upcoming games.

It was a balanced match, with the goalkeepers intervening little,” the head coach told reporters after the game.

“We played an organised match, with great sacrifice. In the second half we could have developed some occasions better, and then the final episode penalised us. However, we must not think that this defeat could affect our path.”

Inter has been backed by many fans and pundits to repeat the historic feat of winning the treble, done by the club in 2010 under Jose Mourinho. Last week, they knocked out Bayern Munich to book a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League. However, Sunday’s loss has struck a blow on their optimism.

Asked about the team’s performance against Bologna, Inzaghi said: “I’m happy with the performance because I thought that against a team like Bologna we could have risked suffering more.

“I’m disappointed with the result, but Bologna is a team of absolute value.”

On the way forward for the team he added: “Tonight we must analyse the defeat, leaving aside the nervousness.

“The team was very disappointed and nervous now, so we will do it later but our championship does not end here.”
