Juventus have entered the race to sign Mason Greenwood, setting up a fierce battle with Roma as both Serie A giants compete for the Marseille forward ahead of the new season.
Juventus have stepped up their pursuit of Mason Greenwood, adding fresh competition to Roma’s long-running efforts to sign the former Manchester United forward.
The Bianconeri are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to make a formal approach if the opportunity arises, potentially turning one of Serie A’s biggest transfer stories into a direct battle between two domestic rivals.
The Turin giants have admired Greenwood for some time, with their interest dating back to last season. As Roma continue to struggle to reach an agreement with Marseille, Juventus believe they could still position themselves to hijack the deal if negotiations remain at a standstill.
Roma have already completed much of the groundwork with the player. Greenwood is understood to have reached a verbal agreement on personal terms with the Giallorossi, demonstrating his willingness to make the move to the Italian capital. However, discussions between the two clubs have yet to produce a breakthrough.
The biggest obstacle remains Marseille’s valuation. The French side are demanding around €50 million plus bonuses before considering a sale, a figure that Roma have so far been reluctant to meet despite making Greenwood their priority attacking target for the summer.
Determined not to lose out, Roma are now preparing an improved package worth more than €50 million in total. The club hope the revised proposal will satisfy Marseille’s demands while also fulfilling new manager Gian Piero Gasperini’s desire to strengthen his attacking options before the new campaign begins.
The transfer race has already seen interest from outside Italy. Turkish giants Fenerbahce had previously reached an agreement with Greenwood’s representatives over a lucrative €12 million-per-season salary package, but that move collapsed after presidential candidate Hakim Safi lost the club’s elections.
Although new Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim remains interested in Greenwood, the club are no longer willing to match the previously discussed financial terms. That development has significantly reduced competition from Turkey, leaving Juventus and Roma as the leading contenders for his signature.
Greenwood’s outstanding campaign with Marseille explains why so many clubs remain eager to sign him. The forward finished last season with 26 goals and 11 assists across all competitions, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most productive attackers.
