Jean-Kévin Duverne delivered a dangerous cross into the area, and Lenny Joseph’s clever flick found its way into the net via an unfortunate touch from goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.
The early setback sparked Morocco into life. Johny Placide was quickly called into action, producing a fine save to deny Ayoub El Kaabi, while Ismael Saibari squandered a golden opportunity by firing over from close range.
Placide continued to frustrate the Atlas Lions, pulling off an impressive double save to stop Achraf Hakimi and Sofyan Amrabat in one-on-one situations.
Morocco’s pressure finally paid off midway through the first half. Bilal El Khannouss delivered a dangerous cross into the box, and after Placide failed to deal with it cleanly, Hakimi was perfectly positioned to slide the loose ball over the line and restore parity for the North Africans.
Haiti refused to be intimidated and responded in spectacular fashion. Duverne won possession high up the pitch before setting up Wilson Isidor, who unleashed a stunning long-range strike into the top corner to put Haiti back in front and leave Morocco chasing the game once again.
However, Morocco entered the break level after producing another crucial response. Hakimi turned provider with an excellent cross from the right, and Saibari arrived at the perfect moment to fire a first-time finish into the bottom corner.
The goal ensured Morocco avoided trailing at half-time and also saw Saibari become the first African player to score in all three group-stage matches of a World Cup campaign.
Determined to secure top spot in the group, Morocco dominated much of the second half and eventually found the breakthrough they needed.
After several near misses, Chadi Riad flicked on a corner kick and substitute Soufiane Rahimi saw his effort take a deflection before nestling into the top corner to give the Atlas Lions the lead for the first time in the match.
Morocco completed the comeback deep into stoppage time when Rahimi kept the attack alive before squaring the ball for Gessime Yassine, who tapped home his first senior international goal.
