Liverpool have rejected a €25m (£21.7m) bid from Inter Milan for midfielder Curtis Jones.
The offer falls below Liverpool’s valuation of the academy graduate. The Premier League champions are understood to rate Jones at around £35m and will not agree to a transfer at a reduced fee despite his contract entering its final year.
Inter has had interest in the 25-year-old for a long time. The Italian club explored a deal during the January transfer window and proposed an initial loan with an obligation or option to buy, but Liverpool rejected the approach.
Inter’s sporting director, Piero Ausilio, then publicly acknowledged their interest earlier this month before the official bid, but Liverpool have again resisted attempts to prise the player away from Anfield.
Jones’s contract situation has inevitably attracted attention across Europe and Liverpool now face a decision over whether to extend his stay or risk losing value on a player who could become a free agent next summer.
A product of Liverpool’s academy since joining at the age of nine, Jones signed his first professional contract in 2018 and has become a regular in the first team.
But his future is up in the air and teammate Federico Chiesa recently revealed that Jones had asked him about life in Italy, which could suggest he is open to a move to Serie A.
