Kylian Mbappe made history against Senegal, becoming France’s all-time leading scorer both in their history and at the World Cup.
Kylian Mbappe rewrote football history once again as he scored a brace to help France beat Senegal 3-1.
The 27-year-old scored twice as France opened their World Cup campaign with an important win, but the goals meant far more than just three points.
You genuinely can’t talk shit about Mbappe during the World Cup
You must just shut up and wait until he gets knocked out 😭😭😭

By finding the net on two occasions, Mbappe shattered multiple records and moved within touching distance of one of the most prestigious milestones in football history.
The first major achievement saw Mbappe become France’s all-time leading goalscorer.
Entering the tournament level with former striker Olivier Giroud on 57 international goals, the French captain needed just one goal against Senegal to stand alone at the top of the country’s scoring charts.
Let your apologies be as loud as your disrespect.

His brace took him to 58 goals for Les Bleus, making him the most prolific scorer France has ever produced.
The goals also strengthened Mbappe’s reputation as France’s greatest World Cup marksman. Having already scored four goals during France’s victorious 2018 campaign and eight more at Qatar 2022, he arrived in North America with 12 World Cup goals.
His double against Senegal pushed that tally to 14, extending his record as France’s highest goalscorer in World Cup history, a record he achieved by playing in just three World Cup tournaments.
His World Cup record now stands at four goals in 2018, eight in 2022, and two in 2026, while he also boasts four goals in World Cup finals alone.
The brace against Senegal also allowed Mbappe to leapfrog Lionel Messi in the list of all-time World Cup scorers. Messi entered the 2026 tournament with 13 World Cup goals, but Mbappe’s latest double moved him onto 14 and above the Argentine legend in the rankings.

In doing so, the Frenchman climbed into a tie for third place on the all-time World Cup scoring list.
Only Brazil’s Ronaldo Nazario, who scored 15 goals, and Germany’s Miroslav Klose, who holds the all-time record with 16 goals, now stand ahead of him.

He is now 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐑𝐃 on the list of World Cup top scorers, surpassing Lionel Messi, Gerd Müller and Just Fontaine.
And he is only 2 goals away from equalling Miroslav Klose as the all-time World Cup top scorer… pic.twitter.com/x00XiweUtC
