Poland striker also being targeted by clubs from Saudi Pro League after leaving Barcelona

Robert Lewandowski is in Chicago this weekend for discussions over a potential move to Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire.

The 37-year-old striker is visiting the city and the club’s new training facility while weighing up his next move following his departure from Barcelona.

A final decision is pending, with Lewandowski also considering offers from the Saudi Pro League.

Chicago Fire have made little secret of their ambition to attract elite talent and view Lewandowski as a player capable of transforming both the club and the profile of MLS. Director of football and head coach Gregg Berhalter said this week that Chicago were working on a signing that would excite supporters and described Lewandowski as a player whose quality ranks alongside that of Lionel Messi.

A move would continue the recent influx of established European stars into MLS. Since Messi’s arrival in 2023, clubs across the league have attracted players including Marco Reus, Hugo Lloris, Thomas Muller, Wilfried Zaha, Son Heung-min, Rodrigo de Paul, James Rodriguez, Timo Werner and Antoine Griezmann, while Casemiro is also expected to complete a move this summer.

Lewandowski would arrive with an extensive goalscoring record despite entering the latter stages of his career. He scored 14 goals in 31 La Liga appearances last season and added four more in the Champions League. Since joining Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2022, he registered 120 goals in 197 appearances across all competitions.

The former Bayern forward remains Poland’s record goalscorer with 89 goals in 167 international appearances, although he was unable to guide his country to the 2026 World Cup after defeat to Sweden in the playoff final in March.
