Brazil and Morocco played out a 1-1 draw as they opened group C of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Five-time World Cup winners Brazil opened their 2026 World Cup campaign by facing 2022 World Cup semifinalists Morocco.
Morocco showed no reverence for Brazil’s pedigree as they took the game to the Brazilians and forced to sit back for the opening five minutes.
The Atlas Lions of Morocco came close through El Aynaoui and Hakimi. Brazil would later get a chance of their own as Vinicius powers to the byline and delivers a deadly cross.
His cross was, however, completely missed by Igor Thiago’s head.
Morocco enjoyed a great deal of possession in the opening exchanges and in the 21st minute, they finally took the lead. Brahim Diaz played a route one pass to set Saibari on the counter.

The PSV star blasts past Gabriel and Marquinhos before chipping the ball past the on-rushing Alisson to give Morocco a well-deserved lead.
Morocco’s lead didn’t last long as Vinicius waved his magic wand to give Brazil life. The Real Madrid winger kept plugging at his marker and after receiving the ball in space, he cut onto his right foot and fired past Bono to make it 1-1.
Brazil almost took the lead going into the second half but Bono was once again alert to stop Paqueta’s acrobatic shot from going in.
Brazil made a few changes at the start of the second half, which stabilized them.
Once again, Igor Thiago found himself in space after a quick throw from Vinicius. The Brentford striker couldn’t find the back of the net as his shot stung the palms of Bono.

The second half was quieter than the first but things opened up again in the closing stages.
Issa Diop made a hesitant pass to Bono from the halfway line which caused panic as Raphinha raced to catch it. Bono rushed out to clear his lines and save his team any unnecessary trouble.
Alisson was called into action in the dying minutes of the game as Aynaoui bent a long-range shot into the left-bottom corner.
Alisson saved the shot but spilled the ball and had to make a quick recovery to deny Amaimouni from the rebound to ensure the game ended 1-1.
A thrilling draw. 🤩#FIFAWorldCup
