Brazilian’s arrival is the beginning of United’s midfield rebuild, with up to two more signings expected
Manchester United have agreed a deal with Atalanta to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson in a move worth up to €45m (£39m).
The agreement includes a fixed fee of €40.5m plus a further €4.5m in performance-related add-ons. Personal terms have already been settled, with the 26-year-old expected to sign a contract running until June 2030 and containing an option for an additional year.
The transfer remains subject to a medical, but all parties are targeting completion in early July.
Ederson had attracted interest from several leading European clubs but prioritised a move to Old Trafford. His current Atalanta contract was due to expire in 2027 so United were able to negotiate a fee below valuations that had circulated in previous transfer windows.
The Brazilian’s arrival is the beginning of United’s much-touted midfield rebuild. The deal represents an early piece of business for Michael Carrick as he prepares for a campaign that will include Champions League football after United secured qualification for the 2026-27 competition.
United are expected to bring in up to two more midfielders this summer. They have also been linked with West Ham’s Matheus Fernandes, Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni.
