26-year-old is keen on a move to Camp Nou and personal terms not expected to be a problem
Barcelona have opened talks with Atletico Madrid to sign Julian Alvarez. The La Liga champions are eager to recruit a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
The Catalan club are preparing a formal offer worth about €100m for Alvarez and have enlisted the agent Juanma Lopez to help broker a deal. Barcelona have already opened talks with Alvarez’s representatives and are in contact with Atletico, although the Madrid club are understood to be seeking a higher fee.
Sources close to the negotiations believe personal terms would not be a problem, with the 26-year-old keen on a move to Camp Nou.
Barcelona have been interested in Alvarez for over a year, monitoring his situation after Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco identified him as a priority target.
Alvarez joined Atletico from Manchester City in August 2024 in a deal worth up to €95m and remains under contract until 2030. Atletico are therefore under little pressure to sell, given the forward is one of Diego Simeone’s most important attacking players.
Arsenal are also among the clubs to have shown interest in Alvarez. Simeone acknowledged the Premier League side’s admiration before Atletico’s Champions League semi-final match with Arsenal in April, although Barcelona now appear to be leading the pursuit.
