Juventus suffered a damaging 2-0 home defeat to Fiorentina as their hopes of securing Champions League football took a major blow ahead of the final Serie A matchday.
Juventus’ hopes of qualifying for the Champions League suffered a major setback after Fiorentina claimed a stunning 2-0 victory at the Allianz Stadium, ending the Bianconeri’s 10-match unbeaten run in Serie A.
Heading into the weekend with a one-point advantage over fifth place, Juventus appeared to have the perfect opportunity to strengthen their grip on a top-four finish against a Fiorentina side with little left to play for.
The opening stages, however, lacked rhythm as frequent fouls disrupted the flow of the game. One controversial moment saw Dusan Vlahovic go down under pressure from Marin Pongracic, only for play to continue before Fiorentina launched an attack of their own through Roberto Piccoli.
Juventus came closest to opening the scoring midway through the first half when David de Gea reacted brilliantly to rush off his line and deny Vlahovic after Cher Ndour’s misplaced backpass gifted the Serbian striker a clear opportunity. Ndour made amends just before half-time as Fiorentina struck on the counterattack. Manor Solomon timed his pass perfectly to release the midfielder, who burst through the Juventus defence before calmly slotting his finish into the far corner from a tight angle.

Thiago Motta attempted to inject fresh energy after the break by introducing Jeremie Boga, but Juventus struggled to find the breakthrough despite efforts from Weston McKennie and Francisco Conceicao forcing saves from De Gea.
The pressure on Juventus only intensified as news filtered through of positive results elsewhere for Milan and Como, dropping the Turin side out of the top four as the match entered its final half-hour.
Juventus thought they had found an equaliser when Vlahovic converted from close range, but celebrations were cut short after VAR ruled the striker offside. Fiorentina then sealed the result late on when Rolando Mandragora curled a superb strike into the top corner after Juventus failed to clear a free-kick situation.
The defeat leaves Juventus needing a win away to local rivals Torino on the final day to keep alive any realistic hopes of Champions League qualification, while Fiorentina extended their unbeaten run against the Bianconeri to four matches.
