While fans are getting into the hype of the moment, we take a moment to look at the host nations, Canada, Mexico, and the United States of America, and how they are preparing to host the 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup.
While there is an obvious focus on security and coordination between the three countries to deliver a smooth World Cup experience, fans are really in the World Cup for the football and unparalleled fan experience, and in this aspect, FIFA, in coordination with the three host countries, has lined up events that will make the 2026 World Cup a fan favorite.
The Opening Ceremonies
Yes, you read that right, there will be more than one opening ceremony for the 2026 World Cup.
While the main ceremony is expected to be on the 11th of June, just before Mexico and South Africa kick off the tournament at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, there will be two more opening ceremonies, both in Canada and the United States, featuring global superstars.
According to verified reports, the opening ceremony on the 11th of June will be 90 minutes before kick off and will see superstars like J Balvin, Tyla, Maná, and Alejandro Fernández.
The second and third opening ceremonies will take place on the 12th of June, both in Toronto, Canada and in Los Angeles, USA. Both ceremonies will see stars like Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Katy Perry, Future, and Rema.

According to FIFA President Gianni Infantino, the opening ceremonies will have a shared vision and are all expected to showcase the energy and cultural identities of the host nations.
Match Venues
The 2026 World Cup will be the first World Cup since 2002 to be hosted by multiple countries. It will also mark the Mexico has hosted or co-hosted the World Cup, and it will be the second time since 1994 that the United States of America will host the World Cup.
With the World Cup set to be hosted in three countries, the host cities have been divided into three geographical regions, namely:
- Western Region (Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles)
- Central Region (Guadalajara, Mexico City, Monterrey, Houston, Dallas, Kansas City)
- Eastern Region (Atlanta, Miami, Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, New York/New Jersey)
The opening ceremony will be in Mexico as well as 12 other matches, while Canada will also host 13 games. The United States will host the most games (78), including those from the quarterfinal onward.
Fan Festivals
To capture the spirit of football, which is the main selling point of the World Cup, FIFA and the host countries have designed fan zones, which are spaces where local communities and fans from around the world come together to watch, celebrate, feel, and share the world’s biggest sporting event. For those who can’t go to the stadium, these fan festivals are places where you can enjoy matches live on giant screens, while being surrounded by football, music, and culture.
There will be 14 FIFA fan festivals across the three host countries, with two in Canada, three in Mexico, and 9 in the United States.
