Ousmane Dembele wins the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award for a second straight season despite injury setbacks, as PSG close in on another league title and prepare for the Champions League final.
Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembele has been named Ligue 1 Player of the Year for the second consecutive season after playing a major role in PSG’s dominant campaign domestically and in Europe.
The 28-year-old becomes only the fifth player in Ligue 1 history to win the award in back-to-back years, with former PSG superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic the last player to achieve the feat back in 2014.
Dembele took over the crown from Kylian Mbappe last season after the French captain’s five-year reign as the division’s best player before his move to Real Madrid.

Speaking after receiving the award, Dembele was quick to credit his teammates for helping him secure the individual honour once again. “It’s an individual trophy, but all the individual trophies I’ve won are thanks to this team,” Dembele said following the announcement.
The PSG winger earned the recognition despite enduring an injury-hit season that significantly limited his playing time. Dembele has started only nine Ligue 1 matches this campaign and accumulated just 960 minutes, a major drop from the 20 starts and 1,736 minutes he managed last season.
Even with fewer appearances, the France international has still produced impressive numbers, scoring 10 league goals and registering six assists, although those figures remain below the 21 goals and eight assists he delivered during the previous campaign.
PSG are now on the verge of securing yet another Ligue 1 title after their 1-0 victory over Brest left them six points clear of Lens with only two matches remaining. Luis Enrique’s side can officially seal a fifth straight league crown on Wednesday if they avoid defeat against second-placed Lens, while they also continue preparations for the Champions League final against Arsenal later this month.
