AC Milan’s hopes of securing a top-four finish in Serie A suffered another damaging setback after Atalanta claimed a thrilling 3-2 victory at San Siro. The result extended La Dea’s unbeaten run against AC Milan to six league meetings and piled more pressure on Massimiliano Allegri’s side in the race for Champions League qualification.
Atalanta arrived in Milan searching for a response after failing to win any of their previous four Serie A matches. Despite their recent struggles, the visitors started brightly and survived an early scare when Adrien Rabiot struck the post from the edge of the penalty area.
The visitors quickly punished Milan for that missed opportunity. In the seventh minute, Ederson reacted fastest to a loose ball inside the area and calmly swept his finish into the bottom corner to hand Atalanta an early advantage.
With momentum on their side, Atalanta continued to trouble Milan’s shaky defence and doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark. Nikola Krstovic showed excellent awareness to set up Davide Zappacosta, who kept his composure to slot beyond Mike Maignan and leave the home crowd stunned.

AC Milan attempted to respond before the break, but Marco Carnesecchi produced an important save to deny Rafael Leao. Atalanta remained firmly in control after halftime and added a third goal in the 51st minute when Giacomo Raspadori fired a brilliant angled strike into the top corner following another assist from Ederson.
The Rossoneri increased the pressure as they searched for a way back into the contest, but Carnesecchi continued to frustrate the hosts with another fine stop to deny Christopher Nkunku. AC Milan also saw Niclas Fullkrug have a goal ruled out for offside as frustration grew around San Siro.
Milan finally found a breakthrough late in the game when Strahinja Pavlovic headed home Samuele Ricci’s inviting free-kick in the 88th minute. The hosts then set up a dramatic finish in stoppage time as Nkunku converted from the penalty spot after Marten de Roon committed a clumsy foul inside the area.
Despite Milan’s late rally and a final opportunity that fell to Matteo Gabbia, Atalanta held firm to secure a crucial victory on the road. The win provides a huge morale boost for Raffaele Palladino’s side, while Milan’s Champions League hopes now hang precariously in the balance heading into the closing weeks of the season.
