Manager admits “it’s not in our hands” and urges West Ham to take points off Arsenal
Pep Guardiola understands Manchester City can do nothing to stop Arsenal from winning the league, given the Gunners’ two-point advantage at the top.
City beat Brentford 3-0 on Saturday but Arsenal will win the premier league if they defeat West Ham, Burnley and Crystal Palace in their final three games. City, on the other hand, will face Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Aston Villa.
“We are fighting with a team quite similar to Liverpool in the past, that is in the final of the Champions League without losing a game and have been top of the league almost all season,” Guardiola said of Arsenal.
“It’s not in our hands so it depends on them dropping points but all we can do is Wednesday win again, play the final of the FA Cup and go to Bournemouth – I’d say that is not the best one to go – and then Aston Villa so the calendar is demanding.
“But it’s simple. It’s just two weeks and the season will be over. I love it – love to be here again, finish second again is the minimum so I love it. The Carabao Cup is in our pocket, the Cup final at Wembley is the most beautiful day of the season and I love it.”
Out of Arsenal’s three final games, West Ham are perhaps the team who pose the only significant threat. Defeat to the Gunners would likely condemn Nuno Espirito Santo’s side to relegation.
After speaking in his press conference Guardiola jokingly crossed his arms to mimic a Hammer, West Ham’s logo, and urged them to help City and take points off Arsenal, saying: “Come on you Irons!”
