Club want a left-back but a move may depend on how much of their budget remains after midfield signings

Manchester United are considering a summer move for West Ham’s El Hadji Malick Diouf as they look to strengthen at left-back.

The 21-year-old has impressed in his first season at the London Stadium after joining from Slavia Prague for £19m. Following a slow start, Diouf has become a key figure, showing improvement defensively while also contributing with his crossing and attacking play.

United are among several Premier League clubs tracking his progress as they seek competition for Luke Shaw. However, it remains uncertain whether West Ham would be willing to sell, especially if they avoid relegation.

The Hammers are currently just two points above the relegation zone with four matches remaining. There is a huge chance of survival but a drop will increase the likelihood of player sales this summer.

United’s priority in the summer is reinforcing their midfield, with targets including Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, and Atalanta’s Ederson. A move for a left-back such as Diouf may depend on how much of their budget remains after signing at least two central midfielders.

Shaw has performed well this season and has played his longest stretch of football in years without injury, but United expect an increase of up to 50% in the amount of games they will play next season, which means there will be a lot more strain on the 30 year old.
