AC Milan and Juventus played out another low-scoring Serie A classic at San Siro, settling for a goalless draw that leaves the race for Champions League qualification finely balanced.
AC Milan and Juventus once again served up a fixture short on goals as the two Serie A heavyweights played out a frustrating 0-0 draw at San Siro. It was the fourth time in their last five league meetings that neither side could find the net.
Both clubs entered the contest with plenty at stake. While runaway leaders Inter Milan appear untouchable in the title race, AC Milan and Juventus were focused on strengthening their hold on the top four and pushing for a second-place finish. A victory for either side would have been a major step toward securing UEFA Champions League football, but from the opening whistle, neither team looked willing to take major risks.

The early stages reflected the tense nature of the occasion, with possession frequently changing hands in midfield and clear-cut chances hard to come by.Â
Juventus were the first to threaten when Adrien Rabiot tried his luck from range, only to see Michele Di Gregorio react well to keep the effort out. Moments later, the visitors thought they had broken the deadlock when Khephren Thuram tucked away Francisco Conceicao’s low delivery, but the celebrations were cut short by an offside flag.
Juventus, particularly through Conceicao, looked the sharper of the two sides before the interval. The Portuguese winger repeatedly found space down the right and tested Mike Maignan with a fierce near-post strike after bursting into the penalty area. Conceicao remained lively throughout the half and forced another save from the Milan goalkeeper just before the break, ensuring the Rossoneri headed into halftime relieved to still be level.
AC Milan showed more urgency after the restart and nearly produced the game’s best attacking move.Â
Rafael Leao surged forward before slipping a smart pass into the path of Alexis Saelemaekers inside the area. The Belgian looked destined to score, but his effort crashed against the crossbar, drawing gasps from the San Siro crowd and denying the home side what would have been a priceless opener.
As the game opened up slightly, Juventus had their own moment of controversy when Jonathan David tumbled in the box after a coming together with Matteo Gabbia. The Bianconeri players appealed strongly for a penalty, but the referee waved away the protests, much to the frustration of the visiting bench.
AC Milan’s hopes of finding a late winner were then complicated by an injury concern to Luka Modric, who was forced off after an awkward aerial collision with Manuel Locatelli.
In the end, the stalemate did little to alter the shape of the Serie A table. AC Milan remain third, Juventus stay fourth, and the gap to the chasing pack remains healthy enough to keep both sides in control of their Champions League destiny.Â
Juventus may ultimately feel slightly more satisfied, having left San Siro with a valuable point and preserved a six-point cushion over fifth-placed Como, but neither manager will pretend this was a performance overflowing with attacking ambition.
