Argentina international is under contract until 2032, which gives Chelsea all the negotiating power, but he created uncertainty around his future with his comments in March

Manchester City are exploring a move for Enzo Fernandez as they assess midfield options ahead of the summer transfer window.

Interest in the Chelsea midfielder is described as being at an early stage, with City also monitoring other targets, including Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.

Fernandez is also attracting attention from Real Madrid, although it remains unclear whether the Spanish side will make a formal approach. The midfielder drew attention during the March international break after speaking about Madrid, comments which led to him being dropped for two matches by then-manager Liam Rosenior.

City’s interest comes as they prepare for the departure of Bernardo Silva, who will leave the club at the end of his contract after nearly a decade.

Rodri’s future is also being monitored. The midfielder’s current deal runs until 2027 but he has been heavily linked with a move back to the Spanish capital. Pep Guardiola said in April he was “positive” the Spain international would sign a new contract, but Rodri fuelled rumours when he said he “could not turn down” a move to Madrid.

City may have to battle Manchester United for Anderson’s services, but the England international is currently rumoured to favour a move to the Etihad.

Fernandez is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2032, which gives Chelsea all the negotiating power, but the Argentine created uncertainty around his future with his comments in March.

Since joining from Benfica in January 2023 for a then-British record fee of €120m, Fernandez has made 163 appearances for Chelsea, winning the Club World Cup and Conference League last season. This term, the World Cup winner has scored 12 goals and registered six assists in 48 appearances.
