Chelsea save millions on Liam Rosenior’s sacking thanks to a break clause, but total managerial compensation under BlueCo nears $60 million.

Chelsea have reportedly avoided a massive financial hit following the dismissal of Liam Rosenior, thanks to a crucial break clause inserted into his long-term contract.

Rosenior had signed a six-and-a-half-year deal after arriving from Strasbourg in January, but his tenure lasted just over three months. Initially, there were fears the club would be forced to pay more than $32 million in compensation.

However, reports indicate Chelsea will only pay the equivalent of one year’s salary, around $5.4 million, significantly reducing the financial damage of his early departure.

Despite this saving, Rosenior’s short spell has still proven costly. Chelsea paid a market rate fee to Strasbourg for his release, a deal that drew attention given both clubs are owned by the BlueCo investment group.

When factoring in his wages and the compensation fee, Rosenior’s time at Stamford Bridge is estimated to have cost around $7.2 million. That breaks down to roughly $67,000 per day or about $650,000 per win during his brief stint.

Chelsea’s managerial turnover under BlueCo has been notably expensive, with five permanent managers leaving the club in less than four years. Each departure has involved some level of financial settlement.

High-profile exits such as Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter came with the largest payouts, both reportedly receiving around $17.5 million after their dismissals. Mauricio Pochettino also departed with a substantial package after the 2023–24 season, while Enzo Maresca agreed to a reduced settlement similar to Rosenior’s, estimated at one year’s salary.

In total, Chelsea’s spending on managerial compensation under BlueCo is believed to have reached approximately $59.3 million, excluding the significant fees paid to appoint some of these coaches.
