Brazil defender has suffered recurring injuries since 2023

Real Madrid defender Eder Militao is expected to be fit for the World Cup despite suffering a hamstring injury.

The Brazil international was forced off shortly before half-time in Madrid’s 2-1 La Liga win over Alaves on Tuesday. The club later confirmed the injury in a medical update.

“Following tests carried out today on our player Eder Militao by Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the biceps femoris of his left leg,” the club said. “His progress will be monitored.”

Further tests will be carried out to assess the full extent of the problem, but the expectation is that the 28-year-old will not miss the World Cup.

Militao has struggled with recurring injury issues in recent seasons, including cruciate ligament injuries in consecutive campaigns in 2023-24 and 2024-25. This season he has made just 16 La Liga appearances after another injury kept him out from December to March.

Real Madrid also confirmed another injury concern, with midfielder Arda Guler suffering a hamstring issue in his right leg.

Madrid are still nine points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona with six matches left, including a clásico at Camp Nou on May 10.

Brazil are scheduled to play friendlies against Panama on 31 May and Egypt on 7 June before beginning their World Cup campaign against Morocco on 14 June.
