Executive officer Nathan Shi acknowledges “difficult moment” in statement to fans and pledges “respond with clarity and conviction”
Wolverhampton Wanderers have been relegated from the Premier League after West Ham United drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace on Monday, confirming their drop to the Championship with five games remaining.
Rob Edwards’s side sit on 17 points after 33 matches in what has been a difficult campaign. Wolves began the season under Vitor Pereira before he was dismissed in November and replaced by Edwards.
The club endured a poor start, failing to win a league game until January and managing only two further victories after that, despite notable results against Aston Villa and Liverpool. Any hopes of a turnaround under Edwards faded after he lost his first seven league matches in charge. Since then, Wolves’ fate was effectively sealed and the club have been planning for the inevitable drop.
Relegation ends Wolves’ eight-year stay in the top flight and means a return to the Championship for the first time since the 2017-18 season. Executive officer Nathan Shi acknowledged the disappointment and apologised to supporters.

“Confirmation of our relegation is a difficult moment for everyone connected to Wolves,” said Nathan Shi. “While this is a deeply disappointing outcome, work has been under way since my arrival in December to ensure we are ready to respond with clarity and conviction.
“We are clear on what needs to improve, and our focus is now on strengthening the club, building momentum and creating a team our supporters can believe in. We know what is required and will approach the months ahead with purpose.
“We know this season has tested your loyalty and patience. Your backing, home and away, has not been taken for granted. You deserve better and giving you a club you can genuinely be proud of is what drives everything we do from this point forward.”
