Cherries could still overtake the Blues and qualify for the Europa League
Bournemouth have confirmed that Marco Rose will take over as head coach this summer, replacing Andoni Iraola at the end of his contract.
Iraola joined Bournemouth in 2023 after a successful spell at Rayo Vallecano. He has since drawn praise for his achievements so far at the south-coast club.
He has five matches left in charge of Bournemouth this season and could still guide the club into European competition for the first time in their history. The Cherries are currently level on points with sixth-placed Chelsea, who have drifted away from the Champions League spots. But Bournemouth could still overtake the Blues and qualify for the Europa League.
Iraola’s replacement Rose has agreed a three-year deal and will take charge of a Premier League side for the first time. The 49-year-old has been without a club since leaving RB Leipzig in March 2025.
During his managerial career, Rose has worked at clubs including Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Monchengladbach, and Borussia Dortmund, where he coached players such as Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham. He also has experience in the Champions League and is known for a high-intensity pressing style.
In a statement, Bournemouth said: “The 49-year-old arrives on the south coast with a wealth of experience at the highest level of European football, having managed Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig.
“The club’s immediate focus remains firmly on finishing the current campaign as strongly as possible, with the players and staff continuing to show full commitment to achieving positive results and building on the current 13-game unbeaten run.
“Everyone at AFC Bournemouth looks forward to welcoming Marco to Vitality Stadium as he begins his role as head coach in the summer.”
