Romelu Lukaku returns to Napoli after a tense absence, as the club looks to repair relations and boost their push for Champions League qualification.

Romelu Lukaku has returned to Naples, arriving at Capodichino Airport on Sunday evening as he looks to bring an end to a turbulent spell that has cast a shadow over Napoli’s season.

The striker touched down via private jet from Brussels but kept a low profile upon arrival, offering no comments to waiting reporters as he made his way through the airport.

Behind the scenes, far more significant matters await, with Lukaku expected to meet manager Antonio Conte and club officials in an effort to rebuild trust after weeks of tension. The rift dates back to March, when Lukaku opted to remain in Belgium during the international break instead of reporting to Napoli’s training base, Castel Volturno, as instructed.

Napoli responded firmly, issuing a fine for his unauthorised absence

This week’s return to training is set to mark Lukaku’s first direct interaction with Conte since Napoli’s win over Cagliari in March, making it a crucial moment in determining whether both sides can move forward.

On the pitch, Lukaku’s campaign has been heavily disrupted, with a pre-season hamstring injury limiting his involvement and leaving him with minimal Serie A minutes, but with five games remaining and Champions League qualification still in reach, Napoli will hope his return can inject renewed attacking impetus into their run-in.
