AC Milan edge past Hellas Verona 1-0 to move into second place in Serie A, while the hosts remain bottom and facing relegation.

AC Milan secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Hellas Verona at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi, moving up to second place in the Serie A standings.

The Rossoneri entered the match in shaky form, having lost three of their previous four games, including a heavy defeat to Udinese, and their slow start reflected that inconsistency.

It took until the 32nd minute for Milan to register their first shot on target, with Adrien Rabiot testing Lorenzo Montipò with a straightforward effort. However, Rabiot made his moment count later in the first half, timing his run perfectly to latch onto a through ball from Rafael Leão before calmly finishing past the advancing goalkeeper.

Despite taking the lead, AC Milan were forced to rely on Mike Maignan, who produced a crucial save to deny Rafik Belghali in a one-on-one situation before the break.

Verona showed more urgency in the second half, with substitute Ioan Vermeșan going close on two occasions, including a powerful effort that Maignan did well to stop.

AC Milan thought they had doubled their advantage when Matteo Gabbia headed home, but the goal was ruled out for offside, keeping the contest finely balanced.

In the end, Milan held on for a narrow victory, extending their strong head-to-head record against Verona while the hosts remain rooted to the bottom of the table, 10 points adrift of safety with just five games remaining.
