Aston Villa beat Sunderland 4-3 in a thrilling Premier League clash, with Tammy Abraham’s late goal sealing a vital win in the race for Champions League football.
Aston Villa secured a dramatic 4-3 victory over Sunderland in a pulsating Premier League encounter, strengthening their bid for UEFA Champions League qualification.
Villa made a dream start, taking the lead inside two minutes when Ollie Watkins headed home from close range after a precise cross from John McGinn.
Sunderland responded quickly, leveling the score within 10 minutes as Chris Rigg curled a superb effort into the net following a clever assist from Noah Sadiki.
Despite the equaliser, Villa regained control and went back in front before half-time, with Watkins grabbing his second of the match after connecting with a dangerous delivery from Ian Maatsen. The hosts extended their lead early in the second half through Morgan Rogers, who finished off a slick team move initiated by McGinn and set up by Watkins.
However, Sunderland refused to back down and mounted a late comeback, starting with a stunning strike from Trai Hume after capitalizing on a defensive lapse. Moments later, Wilson Isidor added another for the visitors, punishing a mistake from Emiliano Martínez to bring the scores level and set up a tense finale.
