Napoli’s Serie A title hopes suffer a major blow after a 2-0 hom defeat to Lazio, leaving Inter Milan in control of the Scudetto race.
Napoli saw their already slim Serie A title hopes take another major hit after a 2-0 home defeat to Lazio at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. The result marked Lazio as the first team to win a league match at Napoli’s home ground this season, a damaging blow for Antonio Conte’s side in the closing stages of the campaign.

With Inter Milan having secured victory the previous day, Napoli needed all three points to keep their fading Scudetto ambitions alive, but a sluggish start quickly put them on the back foot.
Lazio capitalized early as Mattia Zaccagni released Kenneth Taylor, who squared the ball for Matteo Cancellieri to finish from close range and give the visitors the lead.
Despite having previously recovered 13 points from losing positions this season, Napoli struggled to respond effectively, failing to register a shot on target before half-time as Lazio maintained control. Goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić kept Napoli in the contest with several key saves, including denying Cancellieri and Nuno Tavares, and stopping a penalty from Zaccagni.
However, the hosts’ resistance was eventually broken again in the second half when Tijjani Noslin set up a chance that eventually fell to Toma Bašić, who calmly finished to double Lazio’s advantage.
Napoli showed little sign of mounting a comeback, and the defeat effectively hands the initiative in the title race to Inter, while Lazio’s victory lifts them back into ninth place as the season nears its conclusion.
