João Palhinha’s future is unclear as Tottenham and Bayern Munich show no intention of keeping the midfielder, leaving him in limbo ahead of the summer transfer window.

João Palhinha is heading into an uncertain summer, with both Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich reluctant to commit to his long-term future.

The midfielder joined Tottenham on loan from Bayern with an option to make the deal permanent for around €30 million, a move that initially appeared to be a clear pathway to a stay in north London. However, that scenario has shifted significantly in recent months. Palhinha has struggled to reach his expected level, while Tottenham’s season has spiralled into a relegation battle.

With pressure mounting on performances and results, Tottenham are increasingly unlikely to activate the purchase option, even if they manage to avoid the drop.

Relegation would automatically end any possibility of a permanent move, further complicating Palhinha’s situation as the campaign enters its final stages.

A return to Bayern Munich does not offer clarity either. Reports suggest head coach Vincent Kompany does not see the Portuguese international as part of his future plans. As a result, the 29-year-old finds himself in limbo—still under contract in Germany, but without a defined role at either club.

Looking ahead, Bayern are expected to push for a permanent sale rather than another loan, with potential interest from Fulham emerging, while Palhinha remains focused on helping Spurs in their fight for survival.
