Antonio Conte dismisses claims he is available for the Italy job, insisting he remains committed to Napoli with a year left on his contract.

Antonio Conte has moved to clarify his stance regarding a potential return to the Italy national team, insisting that his comments have been misinterpreted. The Napoli boss stressed that he remains fully committed to his current role.

Conte’s name had emerged as a leading candidate for the Italy job following the resignation of Gennaro Gattuso, who stepped down after failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Recent reports suggested Conte had made himself available for the role, but the 56-year-old strongly denied those claims. Speaking publicly, he expressed frustration at how his previous remarks had been portrayed. The Italian clarified that while he had spoken hypothetically about the position, he had not offered himself to the Italian Football Federation. He urged the media to accurately represent his words moving forward.

Conte emphasised that he still has one year remaining on his contract with Napoli and plans to hold discussions with the club’s president at the end of the season regarding his future.

This is not the first time Conte has been linked with the national team, having previously managed Italy between 2014 and 2016. During that period, he recorded 14 wins, six draws, and five defeats.

His tenure ended after Italy’s elimination at the hands of Germany in the quarter-finals of UEFA Euro 2016, a match decided by penalties. Since leaving the national setup, Conte has built a strong club coaching résumé with spells at Chelsea, Inter Milan, Tottenham Hotspur, and now Napoli, where his immediate focus remains firmly on domestic success.
