Politano’s late goal gives Napoli a 1-0 win over AC Milan, lifting them into second place and keeping their Serie A title hopes alive.

Napoli boosted their title defence with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over AC Milan, as substitute Matteo Politano scored the decisive late goal to send the hosts into second place in Serie A.

With both sides hoping to keep pace with leaders Inter Milan, the contest began cautiously. The first opportunity arrived when Vanja Milinković-Savić misjudged a free-kick delivery, but Strahinja Pavlović headed narrowly wide.

Napoli responded through Leonardo Spinazzola, whose curling effort nearly caught Mike Maignan off guard, drifting just past the top corner in an otherwise quiet first half.

The game opened up after the break, with Napoli creating the better chances. Giovane forced Maignan into action, while Milan struggled to generate meaningful attacking pressure.

Substitute Alisson Santos added energy for Napoli, and his involvement led to Frank Anguissa testing the Milan goalkeeper with a header. The winning moment came when Politano reacted quickest to a weak clearance from Koni De Winter, firing a powerful volley into the net just minutes after entering the pitch.

AC Milan pushed late through substitutes Santiago Giménez and Rafael Leão, but Napoli held firm to secure a fifth consecutive win, moving closer to the top and leapfrogging their rivals in the standings.
