Christian Nørgaard apologized to Arsenal supporters after FA Cup loss to Southampton.
Christian Nørgaard issued an apology to travelling Arsenal fans following their 2-1 defeat to Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals. The midfielder admitted the performance fell below expectations after a disappointing night on the south coast.
The Premier League leaders were stunned at St Mary’s Stadium, where Southampton produced a determined display. The hosts took the lead in the first half and defended resolutely before delivering a late blow.
Arsenal responded after the break and enjoyed a strong spell of pressure, creating multiple set-piece opportunities and testing the Southampton defence. Their persistence paid off when they drew level, setting up a tense final phase.
However, the decisive moment arrived in the 85th minute when Shea Charles fired home from the edge of the area to seal the upset victory. The late goal left Arsenal with little time to recover and ended their hopes of reaching Wembley.
Speaking after the match, Nørgaard expressed his frustration, saying the team had high hopes of progressing but failed to deliver. He also praised the away supporters, acknowledging the strong atmosphere they created throughout the match.
The Danish midfielder highlighted Arsenal’s positive periods, particularly when they dominated possession and created chances. He admitted the team struggled to convert those opportunities, which ultimately proved costly. Nørgaard concluded by pointing to defensive lapses as the key issue, noting that poor defending for both goals made it difficult to progress. Arsenal will now look to respond quickly and refocus on their remaining competitions.
