Stuttgart, playing at home, started brightly and showed early intent. Chris Führich was particularly lively, testing goalkeeper Gregor Kobel with a long-range effort after recently returning to the Germany national football team setup.
The hosts continued to press, with Marcel Sabitzer forced into a crucial block following another Führich attempt. Kobel was again called into action to deny Angelo Stiller as Stuttgart piled on the pressure.
Chances kept coming for Stuttgart, but they struggled to find a breakthrough. Deniz Undav fired over the bar, while Serhou Guirassy intervened defensively to block a dangerous strike from Führich. Dortmund offered little in response before the interval.
The second half began in a similar pattern, with Stuttgart probing for an opener. However, Dortmund gradually improved after introducing substitutes, including Karim Adeyemi and Fábio Silva, as the match became more evenly balanced.
Despite late attempts from Angelo Stiller and Jamie Leweling, the game looked set to finish goalless. Both sides struggled to create clear-cut chances, and goalkeepers were rarely troubled in the closing stages.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 94th minute when Adeyemi controlled a clearance and finished clinically to give Dortmund the lead. Moments later, Julian Brandt capped a rapid counter-attack by firing past Alexander Nübel to seal the win.
The victory marked Dortmund’s fourth consecutive league success, moving them further clear of Stuttgart while keeping them within touching distance of leaders Bayern Munich. Stuttgart, meanwhile, slipped behind RB Leipzig on goal difference after their first Bundesliga defeat in seven matches.
