Club still have a chance to win the FA Cup and the Champions League this term

Arne Slot has praised forward Mohamed Salah and backed him to win some “extra” trophies before leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

Salah, who has scored 255 goals during his time at Anfield, departs after helping the club secure several major honours, including two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cups.

Slot confirmed on Friday that the Egyptian is fit and available for Liverpool’s FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City.

“He trained with us yesterday and today, and he’s available for the game tomorrow,” Slot said.

Reflecting on Salah’s impact, the Liverpool manager added: “It’s been unbelievable what he did for this club, for so many years, every three days, scoring the goals he did, having the assists, having the impact that he had on this club, winning the trophies. I can only hope that he can add two extra trophies to it towards the end of the season.”

Liverpool head into the final stretch of the campaign sitting fifth in the league, 21 points behind leaders Arsenal, while also preparing for a Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain. They were knocked out by PSG in the round-of-16 last season and will be seeking revenge this term.

The club will be without first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker for now due to injury, though Slot expects him to return before the end of the season. Meanwhile, striker Alexander Isak has resumed training after more than three months out with a broken leg, but is not yet ready to start.

“It would definitely be too fast to expect him in the starting line-up,” Slot said. “He’s trained with us yesterday for the first time, after exactly 101 days.”

Liverpool have lost both league meetings with City this season but Slot pointed to their improved performance in the recent 2-1 defeat at Anfield as a sign of progress.

Slot said: “First half at Anfield, City dominated possession. How impressive was it that we dominated possession in the second half? Because how many teams can dominate possession against City?

“Now we have to show this as well in their stadium, which is more difficult than having 60,000 people at Anfield helping you.”
