Despite the sanction, Rosenior stressed his respect for the midfielder, explaining that frustration over the team’s season contributed to the situation. He made clear that the decision was a joint one and that the door remains open for Fernandez’s return.
The Chelsea boss declined to comment on Fernandez’s long-term future, noting that the player has shown commitment whenever on the pitch, including in recent matches. He reiterated that any decisions about the midfielder’s future would be up to the player himself.
Rosenior also addressed comments made by Marc Cucurella, revealing he held a constructive discussion with the defender. He admitted disappointment that concerns were aired publicly but emphasized that Cucurella remains fully committed and available for selection, including the upcoming FA Cup clash against Port Vale.
Looking at leadership within the squad, Rosenior highlighted figures such as Moisés Caicedo, Tosin Adarabioyo, Cole Palmer and João Pedro as potential leaders, adding that a decision on captaincy would be made when naming the team.
